E-SAFETY

The internet is an integral component of society with a plethora of benefits and opportunities provided online. However, there are also various risk and dangers associated with the safety of its users, particularly for young people. At Sapience Girls Academy (SGA), we take great care and consideration to ensure the safety of our pupils online, whilst in school and encourage parents to ensure their online safety at home.

SGA protects its pupils online through the use of firewalls and online protection systems. We also encourage the practical application of e-safety through our ICT lessons, e-safety workshops and assemblies. The aim of this e-safety section is to provide an area to raise awareness of online safety for both pupils and parents. Young people in particular are at a greater risk of exposure to inappropriate or criminal behaviour online.

Online risk include-

  • Viewing unsuitable content such as radical hate material, adult content, sites that encourage unhealthy behaviours
  • Disclosure of personal information
  • Cyber bullying which can take place on social media or gaming sites
  • Cyber predators who pose a risk and threat to young children
  • Becoming the victim of identity theft, sharing indecent videos or images
  • Posting comments and information that may affect them in later life
  • Spending excessive time online which affects their academics and physical, emotional and mental health
  • Becoming the victim to scams, downloading viruses and malware
